A healthy lifestyle is an eating plan that contributes to or supports optimal health. A healthy lifestyle includes eating the right amount of foods, getting regular exercise, and avoiding or reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and hypertension. A healthy lifestyle is an approach to nutrition that promotes health by eating a well balanced diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding certain environmental factors such as excessive alcohol consumption, tobacco use, and stress. A healthy life style is based on several different facets of good health, including but not limited to healthy diets, regular exercise, weight management, and avoiding certain environmental factors that can contribute to poor health.

The primary goal of a healthy diet is to provide sufficient dietary nutrition to support optimal activity levels and promote healthy function of bodily systems. A healthy diet contributes to overall physical well-being by maintaining or improving general health. A healthy diet supplies the body with important nutrients: protein, carbohydrates, fats, micronutrient, and adequate calorie intake. A healthy diet prevents chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, by contributing to optimal cardiovascular health and preventing the development of new blood clots that can cause stroke and heart disease. A healthy diet can also prevent or reduce the risk of certain cancers including colon, prostate, breast, ovarian, stomach, throat, esophageal, and cervical cancers.

A healthy individual requires a sufficient amount of complex carbohydrates and healthy fat. The typical American diet does not contain enough carbohydrates or fat to meet these requirements. Fruits and vegetables are rich in healthy carbohydrates and fiber, which make them excellent sources for dietary fiber. However, there are many Americans who do not get enough fiber from their diets and need supplements to obtain the recommended daily amounts of fiber and carbohydrates. A dietary supplement, such as FOS (Fruit and Oats) and MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane), contain high levels of dietary fiber and low levels of fat, which are essential to maintain healthy intestinal and cardiovascular functions.
